At Select Dental Studio I have chosen the Sirona In-Lab ( CEREC ) system for all my Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Milling needs. This system works in conjunction with a wide array of products manufactured by Vita and Ivoclar, both leaders in the dental industry. Tried and tested products such as Vita In-Ceram and Ivoclar Empress have been made available in solid block format. The majority of all ceramic crowns manufactured at Select utilize Ivoclar e.max. The e.max material offers higher strength than PFM ceramics, excellent light transmission, and blends in well with surrounding dentition. Unlike many all-ceramic systems which require bonding the crown to place, you may use your favorite cement to place e.max units.

As with any type of restoration, the final product is only as good as your tooth preparation and impression. A 360 degree shoulder prep delivers the best margin integrity. As this system is an optical scanning type unit, ensuring that tissue is not obscuring your margin when you create your impression is highly recommended.

Dental CAD-CAM system vendors tout these systems as being time and money savers. One aspect of this is the recommendation that a lab owner may hire a person unschooled in lab technology, teach them the software and let them go to work. While these systems produce adequate results by themselves, it is my firm belief that these systems still require a skilled technician to look over the software proposed design and make adjustments.
